How to Install a WordPress Plugin?

Plugins make WordPress awesome, and you shouldn’t avoid new plugins!

Option 1: Search & Install Plugin from the WordPress Dashboard

The simplest way to install any plugin is using the WordPress dashboard.

Step 1: Log into your WordPress site’s dashboard

Step 2: Click on Plugins > Add New

Step 3: Search for your desired plugin

Step 4: Click on the install option

Step 5: After installation, hit activate button

That’s it, you have successfully installed and activated WordPress Plugin.

Option 2: Installing WordPress Plugins Manually

The paid plugins are not listed in the WordPress repository. You cannot install paid plugins using Option 1. Therefore, the WordPress has introduced an upload option. We’ll let you know how to install plugins using upload option in the admin area.

Step 1: Download plugin from the source. It will be in .zip format. 

Step 2: Login to your WordPress admin area and visit Plugins » Add New page.

Step 3: Click on the upload button from the top of the page.

Step 4: Select the downloaded .zip file and click install now

Step 5: Click on the Activate button, once the installation has been completed

Option 3: Manually Install a WordPress Plugin using FTP

There are many cases when WordPress hosting provider has some file restrictions that do not allow to install a plugin from the admin area. If you are facing such situation, you can install the WordPress plugin manually using FTP.

Step 1: Download the plugin’s source file

Step 2: Extract the plugin zip file in a new folder with the same name as the plugin

Step 3: Access your host through FTP manager

Step 4: Access the path /wp-content/plugins/

Step 5: Upload the plugin folder to the path /wp-content/plugins/ on your web server

Step 6: Login into your WordPress dashboard and click on the Plugins link from the admin menu

Step 7: Finally, click on the Activate link below your installed plugin and configure the settings
